    What is Palliative Care?

Palliative care is a type of medical care focused on improving the quality of life for people facing serious illnesses, such as cancer or heart disease. Its primary goal is to provide relief from the pain and stress that often accompany these illnesses.

Unlike hospice care, which is typically reserved for people with a life expectancy of six months or less, palliative care can be provided at any stage of a serious illness. It can be provided alongside curative treatment and is often used in conjunction with other medical therapies to manage symptoms and improve overall quality of life.

What Is LuxuryCare’s Approach to Palliative and End-of-Life Care?

Palliative care and end-of-life care, while closely related, serve different purposes within the healthcare continuum.

Palliative Care: This is a type of care focused on providing relief from the symptoms and stress of serious illness, with the goal to improve quality of life for both the patient and the family. Palliative care is applicable at any stage of a serious illness, and can be provided alongside curative treatment. The objective is to alleviate pain and other distressing symptoms, provide psychological and spiritual care, and support patient autonomy and choice.

End-of-Life Care: This is a specific part of palliative care that focuses on the last days, weeks, or months of a person’s life, aiming to ensure the highest possible quality of life for a patient in their final stages. The focus shifts from curative treatment towards comfort-oriented care, including pain management, psychological support for the patient and family, and assistance in making difficult medical decisions.

In addition to our usual services, we also prioritise the well-being of families. Under certain circumstances, we can extend our support to provide necessities such as food and accommodation.

    Palliative 3 Scaled
At LuxuryCare, palliative care is provided by an experienced team of healthcare professionals, including doctors, nurses, and specialists. Our team works together to address the unique needs of each individual, providing effective pain management and assistance with daily activities.

Our ultimate aim is to help individuals continue to enjoy the things that bring them happiness for as long as possible, whether that means spending time with family, engaging in hobbies, or simply enjoying the beauty of everyday life.

Palliative care can be fraught with complex emotions. We fully understand that mental health is just as important as physical health, which is why we have trained psychologists available to provide emotional support to individuals and their families. This support can take many forms, from counselling and practical advice to simply offering a shoulder to lean on.

Our psychologists work closely with the people in our care to identify their emotional needs and develop a personalised plan to address them. They provide a safe and supportive space for people to express their feelings, process their experiences, and develop coping strategies to manage the challenges of their illness.

When living through a serious illness, many people draw strength and comfort from their beliefs. Our team includes a multi-denominational chaplain who is available to offer spiritual guidance to individuals and their loved ones. Whether it’s offering prayers or carrying out religious rituals, our chaplain is here to support the people under our care on their spiritual journey.
