Being a resident at our care home doesn’t stop the summer fun! At LuxuryCare, we love summer as much as the next guy, and so do our residents. This is because, with our help, they get to live the life they want to, making the most of the gorgeous weather, longer evenings and, of course, sweet treats.
Through our activities programme, facilities, garden and day trips, our residents get to make the most of the summer sun.
In this blog, we share what we get up to during the summer so you can get a feel for what life is like at our care home in the warmer months.
Outdoor Activities for Residents
During the spring and summer months, our gardens come into their own. We are incredibly lucky that each of our care homes has a stunning garden that is spacious enough for a range of activities.
Whether you and your loved one like to enjoy a peaceful cup of tea out in the garden to soak up some vitamin D, or your loved one wants to get their fingers dirty with gardening activities, our outdoor space provides the perfect environment.
The seating and tables around the garden provide calm places for a pause while the large green space hosts fun games such as bowls and Skittles.
The summer is also filled with plenty of gardening by our residents as we love to incorporate gardening therapy into our care plans and activity programme, and this is ramped up while the summer is around.
These outdoor activities not only mean that your loved one is getting some fresh air, but they also provide a sense of purpose and help them connect with nature. We also find that our residents love to make the most of the nice weather, and a few games outside help them do just that.
Day Trips Out
With our care homes located in Poole and Bournemouth, we are lucky enough to have the seafront on our doorstep.
We utilise this over summer as we take day trips to Poole Harbour, the Beach and the quintessential seaside town of Swanage.
Getting out and about and being part of the community boosts your loved one’s physical and mental well-being. They also provide opportunities for something out of the ordinary – a few rounds on the penny slots, for example.
Summer Fête at the Care Homes
Summer is a great time to throw an event and welcome friends and family of our residents into our home to have fun.
Our care homes hold annual summer fêtes in their gardens, which always prove to be a highlight of the year.
These much anticipated days are filled with food, drink, games and entertainment, filling our homes and gardens with laughter and smiles.
These events create a sense of community around our home as residents and their families chat and play, creating memories they will share.
Our residents particularly enjoy the energy brought to the fête by the younger grandchildren or great-grandchildren who run around the gardens and engage in silly conversations with our residents.
Special Treats During Hot Days
Of course, no summer is complete without the occasional ice cream.
Our care homes have an ice cream truck visiting them so our residents can relive the childhood joy of going out to the van and paying for a 99p flake (although these aren’t 99p anymore!) or choosing from their selection of ice creams and lollies.
And we didn’t forget about the dedicated staff who work so hard regardless of the heat. The van also visited our head office in Bournemouth.
Our visits to Poole Harbour and the beach often end with a delicious ice cream. Plus, on particularly hot days, we like to stay cool in our homes with an ice cream in the afternoon to cheer everyone up.
Experience Summer At A LuxuryCare Care Home
As you can see, our summers are jam-packed with adventures, activities and awesome events for your loved one.
Our activities programme shifts to focus on spending time outdoors in the sun, and we make the most of living near the sea with our trips out.
The gardens become the place to be with 3 o’clock snacks and tea among the flowers and our summer fêtes setting up on the green space.
Our staff are passionate and driven to help your loved one live their best lives and enjoy the summer as they would with their family in their homes, no matter whether they are receiving simple residential care, nursing care, specialised dementia care or are simply with us for a short respite stay.
Why not visit us to see for yourself? Book a visit to your local care home to join one of our activities or family events to experience summer at our care homes before deciding to live with us.
